Det blev visst lite fel när Starbreeze nyligen rullade ut sin nya Payday 2-prenumeration, där priserna och ändringarna – inte minst kopplade till spelets nedladdningsbara innehåll, fick en hel del spelare att gå i taket. Prenumerationen kostar 4,99 USD i månaden eller 19,99 USD för sex månader – vilket ger tillgång både till Payday 2 samt allt tillgängligt DLC. Starbreeze själva kommenterade den nya modellen på följande vis:
"With more than a decade of content behind Payday 2, we want to give players greater flexibility in how they experience the game. The subscription service makes it simple and cost-effective to enjoy everything Payday 2 has to offer—whether you’re new to the game or returning to explore DLCs you haven’t yet played. At the same time, all existing DLCs remain available for purchase as before. This is about giving players more choice"
Tajmingen var dock inte klockren, för bara veckorna innan prenumerationen rullades ut så sänkte Starbreeze också rabatten på "Infamous Collection" – den bundle som innehöll allt DLC – från cirka 52 % till 33 %, vilket i praktiken höjde kostnaden för de som ville köpa hela paketet. Gensvaret från spelarna lät inte vänta, och många misstänkte att prisändringen var ett sätt att få folk att välja prenumerationen istället.
Huruvida missen var planerad eller bara en slump var något Starbreeze-bossen Gustav Nisser kommenterade på i en ny intervju, där han också erkände att studion "klantade sig" med lanseringen.
"We dropped the ball on coordinating internally and communicating with our community properly. The negative reaction makes complete sense, and the community has made it clear how the price change and its timing looks from the outside. We agree with the community, we messed up on this one, and we have reverted the price on the bundle effective immediately"
Så ordningen är med andra ord återställd, och rabatten på samlingen tillbaka på samma nivå som tidigare.
